MahaNakhon Breaks Ground
As Bangkok’s future landmark, it was fitting that the recently held ground breaking ceremony was presided over by Bangkok Governor Mom Rajawongse Sukhumbhand Paribatra.
With partners PACE Development and Industrial Buildings Corporation (IBC), the Governor broke champagne over the inaugural pile, dug the first landmark pile hole, and, in a tribute to IBC customs, the first stone was laid, to bring good luck and fortune to the development.
Earlier in May, the site work preparation was preceded by three religious ceremonies, Buddhist, Christian and Hindu to celebrate the significance of the event, and was attended by Khun Sorapoj Techakraisri, CEO of PACE along with his management team. The piling stage is being completed by the piling contractor SEAFCO, Thailand’s leading deep foundation specialist. Piling is an essential stage in all major developments as it prepares the ground and foundation of the building ready to support the weight of a structure. Normally tested to a level of 5T, the deep foundations at the MahaNakhon site will be tested to 7T in order to assess the structural requirements higher up on such an elevated structure.
Above ground construction of the property itself is due to begin in December 2011 and is scheduled for completion in two phases, with completion of the Cube in December 2012 and the final completion marked by opening of the Residences and the Bangkok Edition Hotel in July 2014.
